Construction & Trades Training to Begin in Early 2015

HACP is proud to announce a pilot program that will provide residents with the opportunity to obtain professional training in a variety of skilled trades. The program will be facilitated by three local firms: Community Empowerment Association, Mentors Community Wealth Building and the Trade Institute of Pittsburgh.

Each firm will provide its own unique curriculum with the shared goal of preparing HACP residents for stable, long-term employment opportunities in various professional trades. Provided below is a description of the programs offered by each firm. Interested residents are asked to contact them directly with questions, or to register. 

Community Empowerment Association (CEA)

Program Information: CEA will provide a construction industry training program that will teach the fundamentals of carpentry, construction safety, math skills, introduction to power tools and other industry related skills. Upon completion of the program, CEA will connect its students with opportunities for apprenticeships in the construction industry.

Mentors Community Wealth Building

Program Information: MCWBI will provide career readiness, basic certification training, job placement assistance, and the ongoing career support services necessary for individuals to develop a career plan for the construction trades industry, an individual wealth building plan, and ongoing career support resources to help individuals implement their plan.

The Trade Institute of Pittsburgh

Program Information: In just 10 weeks, students learn the fundamentals of masonry and general labor so they can be employed at more than 1.5 times minimum wage. Expect to be provided with hands-on learning, realistic work environments, and life-changing counseling.
