Community Description: Located in close proximity to city conveniences, this location provides residents with a view of downtown, as well as quick access to the North, South and East suburbs. Located in the Hill District, Bedford Dwellings consists of family housing, including apartments and two-story row houses. Pittsburgh's first public housing development, Bedford Dwellings is surrounded by churches, is located near Pitt’s facilities, several hospitals, and the Civic Arena. Bedford residents are offered a variety of supportive services, including free access to a computer lab, at the Bedford Hope Center.

  • Addison Behavioral Care
    Provider: Addison Behavioral Care Learning
    Location: 2241 Somers Drive
    Program Description: Offers drug and alcohol counseling, support group for women, Respite Care Services (child placement while parent is in-patient mental health and drug treatment center), New Image-youth development and mentoring group, and Family Empowerment Program (family counseling).

    Program Description: Bedford Family Support Center is committed to strengthening family relationships among parents, grandparents and caregivers from all communities in the Hill District. The center provides many services that promote positive parenting.
  • GED Program
    Provider: Forbes Road Career & Technology Center
    Location: Bedford Hope Center, 2305 Bedford Ave., 1st Floor
    Program Description: Academic preparation and support to obtain a General Equivalency Diploma.
  • No Strings
    Provider: Resident volunteers
    Location: 2411 Bedford Ave.
    Program Description: Distribution of free clothing and household items.

From downtown, take Centre Avenue to the Hill District. Turn left onto Crawford (one block beyond the Civic Arena). Turn right onto Bedford Avenue. Follow Bedford to the intersection with Somers Drive.
